New Shoot

I recently got the chance to meet Stephon Brisco who is a wardrobe stylist in the LA area and has been in the industry for about 15 years. He put together and amazing photoshoot which I got a chance to work on this past week. Everything went great from the photographers, models and stylists and because of it we got some outstanding photos. We shot on location at a construction site and in turn got a real edgy, high fashion vibe. The photographer was Adriana Curcio and she is extrememly talented. You can check out more of her work at www.adrianacurcio.com. Here are a couple photos from the shoot!

Makeup Workshops

Carla J Farra’s One Day Makeup Workshops

I know how hectic our schedules can get and I know personally how hard it can be to fit in further education when so many classes just don’t fit into your schedule so I have created workshops specifically to work around you. I will travel to you for your own convenience. Whether it is at your salon or even the comfort of your own home you won’t have to go far to get the education you are looking for.

Basic Techniques:
4-6 hour workshop covers all basic techniques, including color theory, consultations, product knowledge, basic shapes and steps, tools, basic highlighting and contouring; natural, moderate and dramatic makeup looks. This is great for someone wanting to enter the world of makeup or just learn basics for their everyday lifestyle.

Advanced Techniques:
4-6 hour workshop goes more in depth with the art of makeup. You will learn how to create facial symmetry, advanced eye techniques, color selection, choosing correct textures for the face, false eyelash application, photography makeup vs. everyday makeup, day to night makeover in 5 minutes and how to achieve a long lasting finish. This workshop is great for the person looking to expand their basic knowledge of makeup or even freelance artist ready to expand their career.

High Fashion/ Commercial Makeup:
4 hour workshop helps bring out your creativity while learning makeup application for high fashion and commercial makeup. You will learn everything from photography makeup to runway, editorial and men’s makeup. Using body paints, feathers, gems and other creative materials you will create high fashion/ commercial looks that are ready to hit the runway.

Bridal Makeup:
4 hour workshop covers all types of bridal makeup. You will learn makeup application for the natural, day and evening bride, black and white vs. color photography, color selections, highlighting and contouring a bride and bridal rates. This workshop is great for the artist who does a lot of bridal makeup in or out of the salon and even for the artist who may be thinking about it.

In Salon Makeup Day:
This is great for a salon that wants to give their elite clients a fun day or evening to get pampered. They will get a client consult a whole makeover and learn how to apply everyday makeup on themselves. It also is a great way to promote your makeup line and sell sell sell! You can also hold a makeup workshop of your choice for your own further education

Recent shoots

I've gotten to work with Photographer Elise Gannett these past couple months and have acheived some great pictures with her. We shot at Malibu beach where we went for a vintage type feel. I used very soft colors such as pastels and neutral tones to compliment the natural light. The hair was done by hair stylist Jeremy Tardo. I also got to do a shoot with Elise at a park in Studio city. This shoot was a lot of fun. We were going for a modern 50's look for the hair and makeup. I acheived her makeup using 50's trademarks such as the signature red lips and high contoured eyes. For the hair I set pin curls all over to give it that true 50's vibe.

Essential Makeup & Hair Products

MAC Bronzing Powder in Matte Bronze: I found I use this product on almost every single job I have. I obviously use it for a bronzer but you can also use it for contouring on the face as well as a natural tone eyshadow. This shade is great because it works well on most skin types and has no shimmer in it which is great for photography.

Mirabella's Prime for the Face & Eyes: Although this is an exclusive product and can only be found in some salons and Distributor stores It's the best primer I have worked with. It smooths the skin on the face so your makeup goes on great and lasts all day! It also has lavender extract in it so it helps to calm down redness to the face. I use this on every single client and have heard rave reviews about it. Check out Mirabella's website to find out what salons near you carry it. http://www.mirabellabeauty.com/

Mystic Tan Face & Body Spray: This is an awesome product that achieves a great tan without harming your skin. Its really easy to use and can be found at Sephora. I use this on a lot of clients to add quick color! Its great because all you have to do it spray it on and it can be used anywhere with no streaks and you won't get that fake orange look (because I know we all HATE that).

Aquage Beyond Shine: This product I have found can be used for a lot of different things. First it's made to give the hair a nice natural shine (great for pictures) without looking or feeling oily. You can also use this and spray it on the body if you are looking to achieve that perfect sheen look. Last but not least, I know we have all at one time or another just put way too much hairspray in our clients hair. If this happens all you need to do is spray some beyond shine in and you will be able to get through the hair with ease. This is a Gods sent product for Hairstylists.

Latina Magazine Get Glam Event

Latina Magazine Get Glam Event

It's always exciting getting to work at these crazy fast paced events. I got the chance to style hair at this event on August 9. Fast dry hairstyling and long lines people were waiting in for over and hour and a half. It's always a fun challenge trying to do a hairstyle that fast and actually making it look good. Here is a picture of one of the many hairstyles I did that day
